Jameela Jamil Criticizes Hollywood’s Embrace of Ozempic and “Heroin Chic” Culture

Jameela Jamil, the actress known for her role in The Good Place, has spoken out against Hollywood’s growing use of weight loss drugs like Ozempic, calling it a harmful trend in the entertainment industry. The 38-year-old actress, who has struggled with anorexia in the past, expressed her frustration on social media, sharing a video of herself dancing in a black swimsuit and enjoying food in the water.

Jamil, who has long been an advocate for body positivity, captioned the video, “May I have the strength through this era of Ozempic heroin chic, in my industry to keep up this good work I did on my brain throughout 2025. I would rather leave this industry than get dragged back.” She also shared a photo from her past, depicting herself during the height of her battle with anorexia, pretending to enjoy chocolate while visibly struggling. In the image, she is seen smiling faintly while holding the chocolate, a stark reminder of the toll her eating disorder took on her.

Jamil questioned the impact of this trend, particularly on younger generations, asking, “What are we teaching the kids?” She highlighted the toxic body-shaming culture perpetuated by weight loss drugs, adding that many people in Hollywood are using Ozempic to achieve an extremely thin, “obedient waif” physique that conforms to sample sizes. “It’s been hard to watch,” she said. “Especially for those of us who have fought off eating disorders. Who are they really doing it for?”

The actress made it clear that she would not be part of this trend, saying, “I plan on sitting out this cycle. Curves will come back. They always do. Then they will go away again. Then come back. I’m not playing with my brain, my heart, my bone density, or my metabolism for a trend. You can’t be left behind in a LOOP.” Through her post, Jamil reiterated her commitment to self-care and rejecting the pressure to conform to ever-changing beauty standards in Hollywood.
